How to Apply Revision Display Filters in Teamcenter

Saw the following question come across the LinkedIn forums regarding how to filter for only the latest Item Revision in Teamcenter:

So I thought I would post detailed instructions on how to accomplish this.

So we have the scenario where the item has multiple Item Revisions including two in work Revisions and one Revision which has been released with status (Rev B with the Status of 60):

So how to configure Teamcenter to only display the latest revision?  By using Teamcenter Revision display filters.

From the pull down menu select Edit -> Options…:

In the Options dialog select General -> Item -> Display:

Toggle on Show displayable revisions only:

An informational warning dialog is presented.  Toggle on Displayable Revisions:

Under Specify the order and rule for revisions display click on the + button:

The Working rule is automatically added to the list of rules.  Double click on Working and select the Configured by Rule in the drop down:

The Condition is automatically set to Any Status; No Working.  Double click on Any Status; No Working and select latest by Alpha Revision Order:

Select OK to save and exit the changes to the Options:

Teamcenter now only displays the Item Revisions that match the rules defined for the Revision display filter:

Note that there is a now a More… displayed under the Item as well.  You can then select and expand the More… to see the other revisions that do not match the default Revision display filter:

By setting the Configured by Revision display filter rules to use Latest Released we can set the filter to only show the latest released Item Rev:

And then expanding More… will show all the Item Revs that do not match the filter, in this example all of the unreleased in work Revisions:

  2. Hi David,
I have been working in Team center 8.3 for over a couple of months now, and have a question on attaching files.
How do i attach a pdf file to an Item revision? I cannot do it with just a drag and drop (in My Teamcenter). It pops up an error.

    Thanks,
    Leenz

    1. Leenz,

Whenever something is not working as expected, go back to the basics. Instead of dragging and dropping the PDF file try manually creating the dataset first then importing the PDF file into the dataset.

      1. File -> New -> Dataset
      2. In the New Dataset dialog select the PDF Dataset type. You may have to hit the More… button to find it.
      3. Give the dataset a Name.
      4. Then next to the Import field hit the … button.
      5. Browse to the location of the PDF file on the operating system and then select Import.
      6. Select OK.

If everything is working as expected then you should have a new PDF dataset created. If going back to basics doesn’t solve your issue then you have something else going on with the system that requires further investigation.

Hopefully this answers your question and thanks for reading the blog.

I agree with Dave, its best to use the basics.

But you should still be able to attach datasets using drag and drop.

You can specify defaults for dragging and dropping datasets using the 'DRAG_AND_DROP_default_dataset_type' preference.
And you can create a preference for the type of relation that each of the datasets should be attached with.
For example, to attach a pdf with relation of IMAN_specification, create
'ItemRevision_PDF_default_relation' preference with a single value of 'IMAN_Specification'.

I still do not understand why you get an error when you perform a drag and drop.
For me it shows an option of selecting the dataset type and other dataset details if not already defined.

  3. Hi Dave!

Do you know if it's possible not to filter the revisions, but to show them by a revision rule in the BOM pseudo folder. We are working with revision rules (Latest Released, precise) in order to get the actual released revisions. This works fine in the Structure Manager, but it's ignored when the user expands the pseudo folder of a BOM.

    Kind regards
    Chris

  4. Chris,

First of thanks for reading and your question. I am not aware of any way to apply Rev Rules to the BOM pseudo folder.

Although I do appreciate the need to want a "quick view" of the product structure Rev Rules are typically used in the Structure Manager and it is here that your users should be looking for their product structure not the pseudo folder.

The majority of customers I work with typically have the BOM pseudo folder turned off as it adds no value to the end user and only ends up causing user confusion about what they are looking at.

    Thanks again for your input,

    -Dave

  5. Hello, how do you apply that to all users? so all users can have that kind of option. As far as I know, that view only applies to current user that sets that preference. Thanks
